High School English Teacher (Virtual Campus, See Description)
Des Moines Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the 26-27 school year to serve as a Virttual English Teacher. This position will start in August 2026.
This position requires licensure in 5-12 English/Language Arts AND one of the following three criteria:
ā¢ A 5-12 Reading Endorsement
ā¢ A 5-12 English/Language Arts - ALL Endorsement
ā¢ 12 credits of graduate level English coursework
Please note: The posted salary is drawn from the 25-26 Salary Schedule as the 26-27 Salary Schedule is not yet final.
TITLE: TCHR General Education Teacher K-12
POSITION TYPE: TCHR
HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
ā¢ Valid Iowa teaching license (appropriate endorsement code for teaching assignment).
ā¢ Knowledge of subject, curriculum, effective teaching methods.
ā¢ Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communications.
Desired:
ā¢ Previous classroom teaching experience.
ā¢ Experience in an urban school district.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for planning and delivering a high-quality educational program to meet children's academic and social-emotional needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
ā¢ Deliver daily lessons, aligned to state and district standards that meet students' individual needs and ensure growth.
ā¢ Create a culturally inclusive classroom that meets the academic and social emotional needs of students.
ā¢ Participate in building and district professional learning communities to plan for instruction, analyze data, and create assessments.
ā¢ Monitor student learning on a daily basis. Use multiple data points to guide and individualize instruction.
ā¢ Communicate with families on a regular basis.
ā¢ Participate in professional development.
ā¢ Demonstrate consistent progress on meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):
ā¢ Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
ā¢ Maintain confidentiality.
ā¢ Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.

BARGAINING AGREEMENT: DMEA

FT/PT: Full Time (7.75 hour day), (Contract days vary by assignment)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, lifting carrying
WORKING CONDITIONS: Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during recess and arrival/dismissal
