GCP Data Engineer – 12 Month Contract
Pro Rata £80,000 | Fully Remote | ⏳ 12 -Month Fixed Term Contract (potential to extend) We’re looking for a talented Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Data Engineer to help design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure powering an innovative, real-time environmental monitoring platform. You’ll develop scalable, cloud-native data pipelines and shape the architecture that delivers critical insights and analytics across the UK. What You’ll Do - Design, build, and maintain GCP-based data pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and curation. - Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for secure, repeatable deployments. - Develop and automate CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure. - Use Python and Shell scripting to build and optimise data services. - Configure and manage IAM, networking, and GCP resources for performance and security. - Optimise SQL queries in BigQuery for analytics and reporting. - Collaborate via GitHub using version control and GitOps principles. - Containerise data components using Docker for consistent deployment. - Contribute to architectural discussions to scale and evolve the platform. Essential Skills - Strong proficiency in Python and Shell scripting. - Solid SQL experience (complex queries, optimisation). - Hands-on with key GCP services (BigQuery, Cloud Run, Dataform, Cloud Build, Workflows, Storage, Pub/Sub, IAM, VPCs). - Experience with Terraform for IaC. - Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows. - Experience using GitHub collaboratively. - Working knowledge of Docker and container environments. - Familiarity with networking and IAM concepts in GCP. Nice to Have Experience with Mendix low-code platform (certification a plus). Experience handling environmental, IoT, or time-series data. Knowledge of data lake/warehouse patterns. Exposure to GCP monitoring and observability tools. Understanding of data governance, lineage, and metadata management. Google Cloud certifications (Data Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Developer).
