Job Summary of Freight Sorting Associate:
A Freight Sorting Associate is accountable for the efficient and safe handling of freight within a warehouse or distribution center. The scope of this position involves activities like unloading cargo, categorizing items, storing merchandise, and packaging products for transport or delivery purposes. Utilizing equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks is integral to performing these tasks effectively.
Responsibilities of Freight Sorting Associate:
• Execute the transportation of freight by operating various motorized and manual tools, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Verify that the documentation matches the specifics of the freight, such as its nature, weight, and any hazardous components, by employing the available electronic or manual systems.
• Use the necessary tools and supplies such as pallets, straps, and rope to fasten cargo securely inside trailers.
• Retrieve and mend impaired cargo as needed. Confirm and finalize obligatory documentation and reports. Aid clients with cargo and documentation as required.
• Fulfill hostling duties as requested.
• Ensure compliance with all governing laws, regulations, and company guidelines.
• Execute supplemental duties as requested.
Qualification of Freight Sorting Associate:
• It is preferred for applicants to possess a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
• The minimum age requirement is set at 18 years.
• Preference is given to candidates with prior exposure to warehouse tasks, freight handling, and forklift operations.
• For roles that involve hostler/yard mule responsibilities, having experience is advantageous.
• Aptitude for performing basic mathematics and counting, whether utilizing a calculator or not. Fundamental skills in communication through writing and speaking.
• Proficiency in lifting and carrying hand freight of various weights several times per week, handling dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds, and operating trailer doors that demand around 75 pounds of lift force, frequently throughout the day.
• Capability to curve, revolve, stoop, and move loads by pushing or pulling during the shift.
• Proficiency in independent work as well as teamwork is key. It is preferred that applicants have prior experience in dock or warehouse roles.
