Freelance Copy Editor
Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Copy Editor to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in editing and proofreading, ensuring all content meets our high standards of quality and clarity. This role requires excellent communication and writing skills, as well as a solid understanding of various style guides including AP Style and the Chicago Manual of Style. The Copy Editor will play a crucial role in refining content for accuracy, coherence, and engagement across various platforms. Responsibilities • Proofread and copy edit content for grammar, punctuation, style, and consistency. • Ensure adherence to AP Style, Chicago Manual of Style, and other relevant guidelines. • Fact-check information to maintain accuracy and credibility in all published materials. • Conduct thorough research to support content development and enhance editorial quality. • Collaborate with writers to provide constructive feedback and improve overall writing quality. • Edit proposals and other documents for clarity, coherence, and persuasive impact. • Assist in technical writing projects by ensuring complex information is presented clearly. • Contribute to creative writing initiatives by providing insights on narrative flow and structure. Experience • Proven experience in proofreading, copy editing, and editing across various formats. • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey feedback effectively. • Familiarity with journalism practices and the ability to work under tight deadlines. • Proficiency in word processing software and editorial tools. • Experience in copywriting or proposal writing is a plus. • Background in technical writing or research is advantageous but not mandatory. • A passion for storytelling combined with an eye for detail will set candidates apart.
