Founding Engineer (Fullstack)

Frustrated by how discourse is so broken on social media that it seems to make us dumber instead of smarter? Build the world's first Debate Prediction Game with us. Together we'll make discourse fun and beneficial for millions of people and supercharge the collective intelligence of humans and AIs. Contro is a VC-backed startup leveraging fair markets to empower people and agents. We are driven by the believe that a real alternative to social media is possible when markets set incentives for sharing information and for constructive behavior. This is why we are creating a transformative debating product that rewards sharing reasoning and insight on a wide range of topics, from light-hearted fun to pivotal questions — just like working at Contro will feel :) We are looking for a Founding Engineer (Fullstack) to help us launch and get to product-market-fit with our initial product: Contro's Debates with Skin in the Game. The ideal candidate is an exceptional, highly intelligent yet pragmatic engineer and cool person who has previously played significant and hands-on roles in creating complex user-facing applications such as social networks or trading platforms—taking them from inception to production at scale. You should also be really interested in web3 / blockchain technology and LLMs. What You'll Do Product & UX: You own the frontend code and work closely with the founder and a senior product designer and as well as our early users to integrate components and monitor and iterate UX to perfection. Systems & Data: From designing Postgres schemas and RLS (Supabase), to writing edge APIs to supporting our backend workers, you shape much of the core infra. Web3 Innovation: You help enable cutting-edge digital asset UX leveraging WebAuthn, integrate our smart contracts, own blockchain indexer and work with our fintech partners. What You Bring Top 0.5% intellectual ability and curiosity as demonstrated for example by a degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering from a top university, or similar 5+ years programming experience, 1+ of which as senior software engineer Proficient in Typescript and React; bonus: in Go/systems Extensive experience with databases such as Postgres Interest in Finance, Blockchains, Consumer Apps, User psychology and AI Security mindset Excellent written communication What’s In For You Competitive base salary depending on experience and location Generous additional compensation with significant upside as an early core team member in equity / tokens Create a consumer product from the ground up which will be beneficial for a large user base Work with cutting-edge technology Smart team, no BS, no formalities, few calls, high flexibility Team-retreats - occasionally deep-work (and party) with your colleagues in person (mostly in Europe)
