Experienced Medical Data Entry Associate – Health Information Management and Coding Specialist

As a Medical Data Entry Associate at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in reviewing and verifying assigned codes, sequencing diagnosis and procedures, and abstracting accurate clinical information to obtain the most specific code possible.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including:

Reviewing and verifying assigned codes and sequences diagnosis and procedures according to regulations (e.g., ICD9CM, CPT, HCPCS, UHDDS, and HIPPA coding guidelines)
Contacting physicians for clarification of clinical information as necessary
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of coding and regulatory requirements to accurately assign codes for appropriate reimbursement of healthcare services
Utilizing web-based tools, coding books, and other available resources to facilitate providing insurance companies with required information
Utilizing multiple information systems to accurately select the correct patient account in order to appropriately review and verify patient billable charges
Participating in and assisting with audits to capture lost charges and determine the accuracy of billing as necessary
Gathering demographic, insurance, and health care encounter information from a variety of sources for the purpose of billing medical provider professional fees
Entering and verifying the appropriate demographic information, charges, and comments into the computerized billing system
Performing manual charge entry by gathering demographic, insurance, and healthcare encounter information from a variety of sources in order to accurately bill medical provider professional fees
Ensuring information entered in the system is done in an accurate and timely manner, verifying charges on accounts as needed, and providing detailed and accurate comments for future reference
Creating a registration in the appropriate system (EPIC) from documentation provided to accurately record encounter and accurately bill the appropriate stakeholders
Responding to inquiries from provider offices and various internal departments in a timely and accurate professional manner


Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:

A high school diploma or its equivalent
No experience is necessary, but a strong foundation in health information management and coding principles is preferred
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review and verify complex coding information
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with physicians, provider offices, and internal departments
Proficiency in utilizing web-based tools, coding books, and other available resources to facilitate providing insurance companies with required information
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality


Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:

Previous experience in health information management, coding, or a related field
Certification in coding or health information management, such as CPC, CCA, or RHIT
Strong knowledge of ICD9CM, CPT, HCPCS, UHDDS, and HIPPA coding guidelines
Experience with EPIC or other electronic health record systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review and verify complex coding information
