About the Role
As a Freight Handling and Data Entry Specialist at FedEx Freight, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to freight handling, data entry, and customer service. Key Responsibilities:
Freight Handling: Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, to transport freight across the dock area to/from trailers for loading.
Documentation Verification: Verify documentation matches freight description (e.g., type, weight, hazardous materials) using current electronic or manual systems.
Freight Securing: Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies (e.g., pallets, straps, rope).
Damaged Freight: Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
Documentation and Reporting: Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
Customer Service: Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
Hostling Duties: Perform hostling duties if required.
Compliance: Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
Age and Education: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Prior Experience: Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling, and/or forklift operations is preferred.
Physical Abilities: Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, to lift dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds, and to open trailer doors requiring approximately 75 pounds of lift force, up to several times per day or more.
Math and Communication Skills: Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator, and basic written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Demands: Ability to bend, twist, squat, pushing/pulling freight throughout shift.
Teamwork: Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Dock/Warehouse Experience: Previous dock/warehouse experience is preferred.
Hostler/Yard Mule Experience: If hostler/yard mule duties are required, experience is preferred.
