About the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center The DLIFLC is a premier language training institution that provides foreign language instruction to the U.S. military and government agencies. Located in Monterey, California, the DLIFLC offers courses in over two dozen languages, including Chinese Mandarin, and has a reputation for excellence in language training. As a Senior Instructor at the DLIFLC, you will have the opportunity to teach Chinese Mandarin to undergraduate students and contribute to the development of their language skills. Key Responsibilities Teach Chinese Mandarin language courses to undergraduate students, including listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, as well as geopolitical, economic, and social issues. Employ computer skills to organize data and teaching materials, and integrate technology into the classroom and homework assignments. Use a variety of teaching methods and resources, including Smart Boards, the Internet, iPods, and Tablet PCs, to create an immersive and engaging learning environment. Stay abreast of current foreign language teaching theories and methods, and participate in ongoing professional development to improve your teaching skills. Evaluate student progress and provide feedback to students and faculty. Qualifications and Requirements Essential Qualifications A master's degree in any discipline, or a bachelor's degree in any discipline and one year of directly related work experience. Fluency in Chinese Mandarin and English, both written and spoken. Ability to pass a language proficiency test (OPI) with a minimum score of Level 3 in speaking. Experience in teaching Chinese Mandarin at the high school level or above. Preferred Qualifications Experience in curriculum development and course design. Familiarity with language teaching methodologies and technologies. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
