Environmental Scientist I/II/III/Sr - ASL
Ahtna, Inc. is seeking a dynamic individual with a background in environmental science or related fields. The role involves conducting field assessments related to contaminated site characterization and remediation, as well as preparing planning and reporting documents.ResponsibilitiesConducting contaminated site characterization, monitoring, and remediation field assessments safely and in accordance with work plansTraveling in aircraft (jets, small planes, and helicopters), motor vehicles, ATVs, and/or watercraft to perform fieldwork, site visits, or meetingsField screening and sampling for contaminants and environmental parameters in a variety of media in accordance with standard operating procedures, guidance, and regulationsDocumenting field operations, including personnel onsite, equipment onsite, weather, environmental data, and operational data using photography, neat and legible handwritten fieldnotes and forms, and tablets. Communicate with project managers via phone, email, and daily reportsExamining and inspecting work progress, equipment, and job sites to verify safety and to ensure that project specifications are metScheduling and overseeing subcontractorsAdhering to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project managersAssisting or leading the preparation of proposals, planning documents, and reportsAuthoring and reviewing technical documents such as work plans and reportsPerforming other duties as assigned by managementSkillsBachelor's Degree in Physical/Environmental Sciences or a similarly related fieldUS CitizenAbility to pass background checks by various Federal Agencies (e.g., DoD, DHS, FAA, etc.) to obtain security access badgesValid Driver's License with a clean driving record, able to drive a company vehicleStrong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint OnlineAdept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writingZero (0) to Three (3) years of relevant professional working experience for Level IThree (3) to Five (5) years of relevant professional working experience for Level IIFive (5) to Seven (7) years of relevant professional working experience for Level IIIEight (8) or more years of relevant professional working experience for Senior LevelQualified Environmental Professional or equivalent professional registration for Senior LevelProficiency in other programs such as Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, GIS, databases, and environmental modeling programsDEC-qualified environmental professionalCurrent 40-Hour HAZWOPER8-Hour HAZWOPER RefresherCPR/1st Aid/AED CertifiedExperience working on projects for USACE, AFCEC, and other DoD/Federal clientsKnowledge and experience with Alaska Native culturesBenefitsMedical, dental, and vision insuranceLife insuranceA 401(k) plan with a 3% matchPaid time off (PTO)Company-paid holidaysCompany OverviewAhtna, Incorporated is one of 13 Alaska Native Regional Corporations established by Congress under terms of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971.
