Entry Level Transportation Engineer

The Transportation Designer role focuses on planning, design, and construction support of traffic signals and advanced transportation technology initiatives.ResponsibilitiesWork within a team of professionals to develop design plans and specifications for a variety of Transportation Systems and communication equipment & infrastructureDevelopment of Traffic Signal Design Plans and Specifications for state and municipal clientsDevelopment of Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCP), including traditional and smart work zones and construction phase service planning for state, municipal and private clientsSystems Engineering documents for transportation technology projects following the FHWA Systems Engineering ProcessDesign of ITS equipment and communications infrastructure including fiber optic and wireless technologies, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Wrong Way Vehicle Detection Systems, and various sensor technologiesPerform engineering field work as needed (various field equipment testing, utility and infrastructure verification, taking measurements and pictures at field sites, etc.)Writing technical reports and memorandaSkillsBS in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation or Electrical Engineering, or related fieldInterest in working across multiple disciplines concurrently with a diversity of assignmentsExperience developing civil design and construction documents – preference given for state DOT experience, a plusTechnical Report Writing experienceAbility to read and comprehend design and construction specifications and plansAutoCAD and/or Microstation0-1 year of professional experience with a desire to learn the planning, design, and construction of transportation equipment and/or communications systems (cellular, fiber, wireless)EITBenefitsDiverse and inclusive culture of collaboration and innovationOpportunity to work on complex, transformational projectsCommunity and social responsibility as sustainable stewardsFocus on learning, development, and career growthBest-in-class benefits, including flexible, hybrid workplaceCompany OverviewVHB offers civil engineering, site and transit planning, GIS mapping, consulting, analytics, design-build, and structure designing services.
