Engineering Manager

Remote Full-time
Engineering Manager Novellia is the first and only company that lets anyone in the US gain access to nearly a decade of their health data in under 30 seconds, 100% free. All your health records, across doctors, all in one place, always up to date. Our mission is simple but bold: give people ownership of their health information and use it to change lives. We work with the world's top researchers to safely turn health insights into life-changing action for millions of people across the world. Novellia is the only patient-powered real world data platform delivering comprehensive, patient-authorized longitudinal health insights to accelerate biopharma innovation. Unlike traditional RWD providers who provide fragmented institutional data, we empower patients to access 15+ years of their health records for free, then transform these complete health journeys into fit-for-purpose datasets for evidence generation, regulatory submissions, and market access. We're growing 5x YoY with top pharma partners, our data have been published with leading scientific organizations such as ASCO and SABCS/AACR, and are backed by tier-1 investors including Spark Capital, Khosla Ventures, Bling Capital, and more. About the Role We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Patient Engineering team β€” the group responsible for building the consumer product experience that puts patients in control of their health data. This is a high-impact, player-coach role for someone who cares deeply about crafting products that people love, and who knows how to lead a team to build them. You will report directly to the CTO and own the delivery, quality, and growth of a team of engineers building the features patients interact with every day β€” from health record retrieval to personalized insights. You have a high bar for consumer experience and will bring that taste to every layer of the product, from technical architecture to interaction details. You will be a close partner to our Product and Design teams, translating roadmap vision into technical reality while fostering a culture of craftsmanship, accountability, and continuous improvement. We are a fast-growing Series A company. The right person brings both the engineering depth to earn credibility with their team and the leadership instincts to help individuals grow, teams gel, and products ship. What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months) Earn the trust of your team by showing up as a strong technical partner and a consistent, caring manager Establish clear engineering processes β€” sprint rhythms, code review standards, incident response β€” that improve velocity without adding bureaucratic overhead Build a strong working relationship with your PM and design counterparts, becoming a reliable co-owner of the product roadmap Identify gaps in team structure or technical foundations and develop a plan to address them Ship meaningful improvements to the patient experience with measurable impact Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 5+ engineers across varying levels of seniority Own end-to-end delivery of the patient-facing product, from scoping and architecture to deployment and maintenance Partner closely with Product Managers and Designers to refine requirements, challenge assumptions, and ensure technical feasibility Drive engineering excellence through code review culture, testing standards, observability, and thoughtful system design Contribute hands-on where needed β€” reviewing PRs, unblocking engineers, and occasionally writing code Recruit, interview, and onboard strong engineering talent as the team grows Create a team environment where engineers are motivated, challenged, and set up to do the best work of their careers Surface engineering risks, trade-offs, and capacity constraints clearly to leadership Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent experience 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a people management role Experience managing a team of 5 or more engineers Strong product engineering background β€” you have shipped consumer or B2B2C products that real users depend on Experience at a Series A or Series B company; you understand what it means to build in a resource-constrained, high-ambiguity environment Proven ability to partner with Product and Design as an equal contributor to the product development process Strong system design fundamentals and the ability to guide technical decisions across the stack Clear, direct communicator β€” with your team, with stakeholders, and with leadership High ownership mindset: you notice what's broken and fix it without being asked Preferred Skills Experience building consumer health or wellness products with high engagement and retention Deep empathy for consumer UX β€” you've worked closely with design and have opinions about what makes a great product feel great Hands-on experience with AI/LLM-powered product features Experience with mobile (iOS/Android) or cross-platform development Experience scaling engineering teams through a period of rapid company growth Benefits & Perks Equity in Novellia Medical, dental, and vision coverage 401(k) Flexible time off Wellness stipend Up to 12 weeks of parental leave Don't meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Novellia, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles. U.S. Applicants Only
