Education - Community Programs and Partnerships Internship

Remote Full-time
Semester-long paid internship in the Whitney Museum’s Education department, supporting community programs and partnerships with a focus on American art engagement.

Your Role:

Key responsibilities include:
• Providing support for virtual/onsite programs and special events.
• Assisting with virtual sessions, workshops, and courses for community partners and senior centers by preparing curriculum materials for freelance educators.
• Researching artists in the Whitney’s collection and current exhibitions.
• Assisting freelance educators offsite at community partnerships.
• Providing administrative support and maintenance of community programs spaces.
• Completing a final intern project connected to community programs and partnerships.

About You:

Candidates should meet the following qualifications:
• Passionate about and have some knowledge of contemporary art and social movements (i.e. immigrant justice, racial justice, LGBTQ justice, disability justice).
• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a degree in education, museum studies, disability studies, studio art, art history, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or ASL is a plus.
• Undergraduates and graduates currently enrolled in accredited academic year programs are eligible.
• Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year’s worth of academic coursework; undergraduate freshmen are not eligible.
• While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students in all majors are encouraged to apply.
• Previous museum experience is not required.

Compensation & Benefits:
• Interns will be paid a stipend of $3000.
• Hybrid internship with some onsite work.
• Access to museum events and programming.
• Professional networking opportunities within the Whitney Museum.

Training & Development:
• Training in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
• Opportunities to observe tours.
• Opportunities to observe and support community programming such as guided visits and artist workshops.

Career Progression:

Interns will gain knowledge of producing educational programming at a cultural institution and learn about inclusive programming, providing a foundation for future roles in museum education, community engagement, or arts administration.
