Editor Position – Meridian Newsmedia Meridian Newsmedia is seeking a community-minded Editor to lead the production of our print and digital products while helping tell the story of one of Mississippi’s most vibrant cities. Based in the heart of Meridian, our newspaper serves a community rich in history, culture and opportunity. Meridian is a regional hub for East Mississippi and West Alabama, offering a thriving downtown, a strong business community and a deep appreciation for the arts. From performances at the MSU Riley Center to immersive exhibits at the Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience and hands-on learning at the Mississippi Children’s Museum – Meridian, Meridian is a city that values creativity, education and civic engagement. Our editor plays a vital role in connecting readers to the people, events and issues that shape our community. Job Summary The Editor will produce and guide the creation of compelling content focused on the news, events and people of Meridian and Lauderdale County. This role requires strong leadership, sound news judgment and a passion for community journalism. The ideal candidate understands that local newspapers do more than report headlines — they strengthen civic pride, encourage public involvement and help communities thrive. Responsibilities Plan, write, edit and organize news, features and enterprise stories for biweekly print editions, daily website and social media updates, quarterly magazines and special publications. Review and edit content for grammar, clarity, AP Style and consistency. Coordinate with correspondents, freelance contributors and community columnists. Photograph key community, government and sports events. Cultivate and maintain a strong network of sources to generate meaningful local coverage. Conduct thorough fact-checking to ensure accuracy and credibility. Play a key role in design and pagination of all products. Produce engaging digital content that builds audience growth and community interaction. Qualifications Experience in writing, editing, photography and pagination. Strong communication and organizational skills. Familiarity with AP Style. Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Meridian Newsmedia is part of Carpenter Media Group.
