Must have experience billing for anesthesiology, pain management, and ambulatory surgical centers (ASC's) Description Job Title Billing Director Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Billing Director to lead and oversee all aspects of our revenue cycle and billing operations. The ideal candidate must have direct experience billing for anesthesiology, pain management, and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) . Experience managing both in-network and out-of-network (OON) claims is strongly preferred, but not required. Experience with the Federal IDR/NSA process is strongly preferred. This leader will be responsible for optimizing billing performance, improving collections, ensuring compliance, managing staff and vendor relationships, and driving accountability across the revenue cycle. Key Responsibilities / Job Duties Oversee all billing and revenue cycle operations for anesthesiology, pain management, and ASC services Manage charge capture, claim submission, payment posting, denial management, appeals, AR follow-up, and patient billing processes Monitor billing workflows to ensure timely and accurate claim submission and reimbursement Lead efforts to improve collections, reduce denials, and shorten days in accounts receivable Analyze billing trends, payer behavior, reimbursement patterns, and operational bottlenecks Develop, track, and report key revenue cycle metrics, including collections, denial rates, AR aging, clean claim rate, and lag days Ensure compliance with federal and state billing regulations, payer policies, and internal documentation standards Collaborate with physicians, administrators, coders, credentialing staff, and outside billing partners/vendors to resolve issues and improve performance Oversee payer-specific processes for commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, workers’ compensation, and other payers as applicable Help create and maintain standardized billing policies, procedures, and internal controls Supervise, train, and hold billing team members accountable for performance expectations Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and better financial outcomes Assist leadership with forecasting, strategic planning, and evaluation of reimbursement opportunities and risks Support escalated claim issues, complex denial resolution, and high-value account recovery efforts Participate in payer dispute resolution and appeals strategies, especially for complex anesthesia, pain, and ASC claims at both state and national level Open to learning and developing the small claims process for underpayments Required Qualifications Minimum 5 years of medical billing and revenue cycle experience, with leadership responsibility preferred Must have direct billing experience in anesthesiology, pain management, and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) Strong knowledge of claim lifecycle management, denial management, AR follow-up, payer reimbursement, and billing compliance Experience leading billing operations, teams, and/or third-party billing vendors Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive performance in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication and leadership skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with both in-network and out-of-network (OON) billing and collections Experience with anesthesia billing nuances, interventional pain coding/billing, and ASC facility billing Familiarity with payer contracting concepts, reimbursement analysis, and appeals strategy Experience with billing software, practice management systems, and reporting dashboards CPC, CPB, CMRS, or similar certification is a plus Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is proactive, accountable, financially minded, and able to see both the big picture and operational details. This person should be comfortable leading people, solving reimbursement problems, improving systems, and helping maximize revenue while maintaining compliance.
