Transform Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education Through Virtual Excellence
We are seeking a dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to join our innovative remote education platform, providing specialized instruction to students across Michigan's virtual learning environments. This position offers the flexibility of remote work while delivering critical educational support to students with hearing impairments who need comprehensive DHH services.
Position Overview
This full-time remote position involves providing DHH instruction to students in grades K-12 through virtual platforms. You'll work approximately 35-37.5 hours per week, managing a caseload of 40-50 students with varying degrees of hearing loss and communication needs. Our virtual model allows you to deliver high-quality specialized instruction while maintaining meaningful connections with students and families.
Core Responsibilities
• Develop and implement individualized education plans for DHH students
• Provide direct instruction in academic subjects adapted for hearing-impaired learners
• Teach communication skills including sign language, oral communication, and assistive technology
• Collaborate with audiologists, speech therapists, and interpreters
• Adapt curriculum materials for visual and tactile learning modalities
• Conduct virtual assessments of student progress and communication development
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to educational planning
• Provide consultation services to general education teachers
• Support families with communication strategies and home-based learning
Essential Qualifications
• Master's degree in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education or related field
• Current Michigan DHH teacher licensure
• Minimum 2 years of experience in school-based DHH settings
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or oral communication methods
• Experience with assistive hearing technology and communication devices
• Strong knowledge of deaf culture and hearing impairment characteristics
• Reliable internet connection and appropriate technology setup for virtual instruction
Virtual Learning Environment
Our platform serves students with various degrees of hearing loss, from mild hearing impairments to profound deafness. You'll work with students who use hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other assistive technologies, adapting traditional teaching methods for effective virtual delivery. The role includes supporting students with additional disabilities and complex communication needs.
