Data Science Engineer (Snowflake Cortex / Epic FHIR / LLM)
Data Science Engineer (Snowflake Cortex / Epic FHIR / LLM)
Location: Remote
Duration: Long-Term Contract
Interview Process: 1 Internal Screening + 1 Client Interview
About the Role
Client is expanding its Snowflake data platform to support a strategic healthcare initiative focused on enabling a Home Hospital program. This program uses machine learning to determine patient eligibility for home-based treatment in near real-time.
The ML model has already been developed in Data bricks. The goal of this role is to migrate and operationalize the solution within Snowflake, build near real-time data ingestion pipelines from Epic, and support LLM-based workflows using Snowflake Cortex.
This is a highly hands-on, senior-level engineering role.
Key Responsibilities
Snowflake Engineering
β’ Design and develop Snowflake stored procedures (SQL & Python)
β’ Work with Snowpark, Snowflake Notebooks, Streams, and Tasks
β’ Build feature engineering pipelines inside Snowflake
β’ Implement monitoring, alerts, and data quality checks
β’ Maintain clean documentation and runbooks
Epic API Integration
β’ Build near real-time ingestion pipelines from Epic using APIs
β’ Work directly with Epic FHIR and HL7 data
β’ Parse and transform healthcare payloads using business logic
β’ Handle API-driven integrations (GET/POST methods)
LLM & Snowflake Cortex Integration
β’ Utilize Snowflake Cortex functions including:
β’ AI_COMPLETE
β’ AI_SUMMARIZE
β’ AI_EXTRACT
β’ Prepare structured features for LLM consumption
β’ Collaborate with AI/ML teams to ensure stable data contracts
β’ Support adaptation of foundational LLMs for healthcare use cases (data perspective)
Migration Work
β’ Migrate components from Data bricks to Snowflake
β’ Rebuild and optimize workflows in Snowflake architecture
Required Qualifications
β’ 5 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Data Science Engineering
β’ Strong hands-on expertise in Snowflake (expert-level stored procedures required)
β’ Experience with Snowflake Cortex (including newer AI functions)
β’ Advanced SQL and strong Python skills
β’ Direct experience integrating with Epic APIs
β’ Knowledge of FHIR and HL7 standards
β’ Experience building near real-time ingestion pipelines
β’ Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
Nice to Have
β’ Experience with Data bricks
β’ Prior experience in healthcare or hospital systems
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a senior engineer who has:
β’ Direct hands-on experience pulling data from Epic via APIs
β’ Deep understanding of healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7)
β’ Built Snowflake-based LLM pipelines using Cortex
β’ Experience migrating solutions from Data bricks to Snowflake
