POSITION SUMMARY A Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) working in the offshore oil and gas industry is responsible for ensuring that all welding operations on offshore facilities, structures, pipelines and top side comply with project specifications, international codes, and strict safety/quality requirements. This role requires technical expertise, strong documentation skills, and the ability to operate safely in remote offshore environment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(This is a representative list of the duties the position may be asked to perform and is not intended to be all-inclusive.)1. Welding Inspection & VerificationPerform visual welding inspections (VT) and verify weld quality against applicable codes (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API 1104, ISO standards)Conduct or coordinate NDT activities (MT, PT, UT, RT, PAUT, TOFD) for critical welds on pipelines, risers, jackets, and pressure-containing equipmentInspect joint preparation, alignment, fit-up, root pass, interpass temperature, and final weld integrityVerify WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications are approved and valid for offshore use.2. Offshore Quality Assurance & ComplianceEnsure all work complies with offshore regulatory bodies, class societies, and operator requirements (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register, API, etc.)Monitor hot work, habitat conditions, and welding operations in hazardous zones (Zone 1/Zone 2)Confirm traceability of materials, filler metals, and welding consumables.3. Documentation & ReportingGenerate detailed inspection reports, NCRs, weld logs, isometric markup, and inspection checklistsMaintain welding documentation packages for load-out, commissioning, and regulatory auditsTrack repairs, rework, and inspection status through completion.4. Coordination & Project SupportWork closely with offshore construction teams, welding crews, NDT technicians, engineers, and the client’s QA/QC representativeParticipate in toolbox talks, work-permit reviews, and SIMOPS coordinationProvide technical guidance on welding practices, defect acceptance criteria, and corrective actions.5. Safety ManagementEnsure compliance with offshore safety standards (e.g., OSHA, UK HSE, operator-specific rules)Identify welding hazards: confined spaces, live plant, elevated work, fire risksPromote proper PPE usage and hot-work safety proceduresPerform all other duties as assigned by manager and/or supervisor.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS High School diploma or equivalent education5+ years offshore platforms, FPSOs, subsea structures, or pipeline installations experience (Valid BOSIET / FOET)Valid AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or International equivalent certificationStrong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, SAW)Ability to interpret offshore engineering drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and welding symbolsFamiliarity with API, ASME, AWS, and DNV welding standardsIntermediate level written and verbal english communication skillsAbility to preform basic mathematical skillsExperience in Adobe, Microsoft Word, Excel & OutlookExcellent organizational and time management skillsFor new hires, must meet all Performance Energy Services employment qualifications in force at time of hiring, including successful completion of a background investigation and pre-employment drug screenFor new hires, must successfully complete all required training by Performance Energy Services.PHYSICAL DEMANDSStand – FrequentlySit – FrequentlyUse Hands – FrequentlyClimb – FrequentlyKneel – FrequentlyLift/Carry over – Occasionally (up to 25 lbs.)Vision – No special requirementsHearing – No special requirements WORKING CONDITIONSWet or Humid (non-weather) – FrequentlyWorking near moving mechanical parts – Frequently Working in high places – OccasionallyExposed to fumes or airborne particles – OccasionallyExposed to toxic or caustic chemicals – OccasionallyOutdoor weather conditions – NoneRisk of electric shock – NoneWork with explosives – NoneRisk of radiation – NoneNoise Level – Moderate
