Primary Performance Responsibilities
ย• Teach concepts and skills in the automotive industry such as, but not limited to: engine re-building, tune up, lubrication, ignition, wheel/tire balancing, alignment, fuel systems, transmissions/transaxles, chassis and body, electrical systems, brakes, suspensions and steering, axles/drive axles/differentials, engine performance and emissions, air conditioning and heating, and other related automotive applications.
ย• Identify student needs and work with other professional staff members in developing strategies to meet individual needs.
ย• Teaching relevant and up-to-date industry standards in the automotive industry to students in a hands-on and dynamic manner
ย• Deliver established course curriculum and hands-on skills based on program requirements.
ย• Develop, implement, and monitor classroom protocols, safety rules, and expectations for all automotive related activities, equipment and tools used in the program; maintain classroom discipline; utilize effective classroom management techniques.
ย• Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive, culturally responsive learning environment.
ย• Effective communication skills and ability to function in a fast-paced student-centered environment.
ย• Establish partnerships with local businesses.
ย• Deliver performance-based objectives and outlines for course of study following NYSED curriculum guidelines.
ย• Organize practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in the automotive industry lectures in theory, techniques, and terminology.
ย• Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning objectives.
ย• Attend staff meetings and training per requirements of School Principal and SW BOCES.
ย• Update and maintain industry relevant Employability Profiles.
ย• Communicate with employers, parents, and school counselors regarding individual pupil progress.
ย• Administer assessments and record assessment data-monitor, grade and evaluate studentsย’ progress. Provide grades for report cards.
ย• Co-chair advisory committee meetings, actively engage in the CTE re-approval process and maintain solid relationships with post-secondary and industry partners.
ย• Perform any additional duties as assigned by the building or district.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications
ย• New York State Teaching Certification: Automotive Technology or eligibility to apply for Initial or Transitional ย– A Certification.
ย• A successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years or more of related work experience by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) as a master automobile technician or as an automotive technician in brakes, electrical and electronic systems, auto maintenance, and light repair and suspension and steering.
ย• Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of current practices and trends in the field of the automotive industry. The automotive instructor will provide instruction in the basic techniques of the automotive industry; including current EV and Electrical car technology; prepare students for immediate entry into the automotive industry or to continue studies a post-secondary institution.
