ControllerBase Salary for this role: $135,000 – $160,000 CAD + 10–20% bonus + meaningful equityLocation: Remote-first (Canada/US preferred), optional in-person collaboration in Vancouver The OpportunityWe’re hiring a Controller to own and scale the accounting function of a dual-listed (TSX/NASDAQ) fintech company. This role reports into the CFO (Co-founder & President) and works closely with the Director of Finance, sitting at the center of financial reporting, capital allocation, and how the business is understood by investors. This is a priority hire as the company continues to scale and financial complexity increases across multiple business lines. It’s a high-ownership opportunity to build and modernize a public-company accounting function in a complex, evolving environment. About OrionOrion is a dual-listed fintech company (TSX/NASDAQ) focused on building financial infrastructure across wealth, payments, and capital allocation. The company is evolving toward a model where capital allocation is a core capability - integrating a long-term investing platform, global payments infrastructure, and an actively managed treasury strategy. This results in a business with non-trivial accounting and financial complexity, spanning financial instruments, multi-entity operations, and capital deployment decisions.Orion is founder-led and operates with a focus on discipline, long-term value creation, and thoughtful balance sheet management. In this environment, finance and accounting are not support functions - they are central to how performance is measured, decisions are made, and the business is understood by public market investors. Why This Role MattersOwn the accounting backbone of a public company operating across multiple business linesWork directly with the CFO on accounting judgment, reporting, and investor-facing outcomesPlay a key role in how the company’s performance is measured, presented, and understood by the marketBuild and scale accounting processes in a lean but aligned environment with real ownershipOperate across a business with increasing complexity (wealth, payments, lending, treasury)Help modernize the function through automation and AI-driven workflowsOperate in a high-trust, flexible environment designed to attract and retain top talentStep into a role with clear trajectory toward broader finance leadership What You’ll OwnEnd-to-end accounting function, including close, consolidation, and financial reporting across multiple entitiesMonthly and quarterly close discipline - improving structure, speed, and reliabilityIntegrity of public company reporting under IFRSTechnical accounting across complex areas including financial instruments, lending, and treasury activitiesExternal audit process, including timelines, deliverables, and outcomesIdentification and remediation of control gaps as the company progresses toward a SOX-ready environmentAlignment between accounting outputs, operational activity, and the broader financial narrativeLeadership of a small, capable accounting team, while remaining hands-on where neededOngoing improvement of systems and processes, including NetSuite optimizationImplementation of automation and AI tools to reduce manual work and improve scalability What You BringCPA with 6-10 years of progressive accounting experienceBig 4 background or equivalent technical accounting and audit experience, with clear progression into industryStrong IFRS foundation, including exposure to complex accounting areas (financial instruments preferred)Experience in public company, pre-IPO, or similarly complex environmentsProven ownership of close processes, audit coordination, and technical accounting workBuilder mindset - you want to improve, fix, and take ownership, not maintain the status quoComfort operating in a lean, high-accountability environment with clear prioritiesStrong analytical judgment and ability to prioritize in a fast-moving environmentAbility to communicate complex accounting topics clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersInterest in leveraging automation and AI to modernize accounting processesYou may not have held a Controller title before - what matters is your ability to operate at this level and grow into the scope of the role.What Success Looks Like (12 Months)Close process is more structured, predictable, and efficientFinancial reporting is faster, clearer, and more reliableKey accounting areas are well-documented and defensibleControl environment is strengthened toward SOX readinessAccounting is viewed as a trusted partner to leadershipCompensationBase Salary: $135,000 - $160,000 CAD (flexible based on experience)Performance-based bonus (target 10–20%)Meaningful equity participation aligned with long-term value creation and company growthFinal NoteThis is a high-ownership role at a company undergoing meaningful evolution.You will not inherit a fully built function.
