Compliance Officer - Hong Kong

Job description Localpayment is a fintech company specializing in local and cross-border payment solutions for emerging markets. Our platform enables global companies to accept payments in local currencies through native methods in each country, facilitating their international expansion. In 2024, Localpayment entered into a strategic partnership with Aleph Group , a global technology and digital media company. This collaboration enhances our capabilities and reach, combining robust payment infrastructure with a broader digital ecosystem. We are looking for a Compliance Officer to be the cornerstone of Localpayment's regulatory and compliance operations across the Asia-Pacific region. You'll own the end-to-end compliance framework for our Asian expansion — from merchant onboarding and KYC/KYB processes to AML controls, regulatory engagement, and due diligence with banking and payment partners. This is a high-impact, highly autonomous role at the intersection of fintech, regulation, and global payments. Job requirements What are we looking for? 2+ years of experience in compliance, AML, risk, or regulatory roles within fintech, payments, banking, or financial services Hands-on experience performing KYC and KYB of merchants or corporate clients (mandatory) Working knowledge of AML/CFT frameworks and at least one Asia-Pacific regulatory environment Familiarity with cross-border payments, PSP ecosystems, or acquiring bank relationships Strong written and verbal communication in English — ability to draft policies, reports, and regulatory correspondence independently and lead meetings Excellent attention to detail and structured approach to documentation and record-keeping Comfort working with compliance management systems, Excel/Google Sheets, and operational tools Job responsibilities What will you be doing? Own and execute merchant onboarding (KYC/KYB) procedures for Asia-Pacific clients, including documentation review, risk scoring, and escalation handling; Design and maintain AML/CFT controls aligned with regional regulatory requirements; Lead due diligence processes with acquiring banks, payment providers, and financial partners across the region Maintain and update internal compliance policies, procedures, and manuals to reflect evolving regulatory landscapes in each Asia-Pacific market Support licensing and regulatory engagement processes as Localpayment expands into new Asian jurisdictions Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Legal, Product, and Sales teams to embed compliance requirements into product flows and partner agreements Build and track compliance metrics and reporting dashboards; proactively flag risks and remediation needs to senior leadership Use AI tools (Claude, NotebookLM, or equivalent) to accelerate regulatory research, policy drafting, and compliance documentation
