Care Advocate (Part-Time)

Remote Full-time
It’s estimated that nearly 1 in 10 people will experience an eating disorder in their lifetime, affecting people of every identity and background — yet up to 90% will not get the care they deserve. Arise exists to change that, connecting people with inclusive, personalized support for disordered eating, eating disorders, and mental health.
With its person-centered approach to care, Arise aims to... shatter the stereotype of what eating disorders “look like” and break down barriers and stigma to bring people care that works for them. Through virtual care pathways, community, and ongoing support, Arise brings people the right care, where and when they need it. Arise is built by and for people who have been there, too — together, we’re empowering effective support for long-term healing.
Our values
• Listen to lead. We’re not going to have all the answers. To effectively serve every person’s healing journey, we must start by humbly listening to and elevating all voices and experiences.
• All bodies have value. We’re here for people of any age, race, size, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, and background, because everyone deserves to be understood, respected, and supported.
• We’re all human. Being human means that we celebrate our successes together and support each other through the low points. We give each other the space to rise and fall and rise again.
We’re hiring Care Advocate team members to build community and partner with members on their healing journey from eating disorders and mental health.
We’re seeking people who have worked with people who have eating disorders in a clinical and/or supportive setting previously — and those who have lived experience with these challenges themselves. You will be joining as an early team member and be a part of bringing our community care model to people of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
In this role, you will partner with members from the start, spending time getting to know them, building a trusting relationship, and creating a personalized care plan — and from there, supporting them on their healing journey. You will be a key member of their care team, collaborating with therapists, dietitians, and other providers to ensure your members get care that works for them. This role will be reporting to our Head of Community Care.
What that will look like day-to-day
• Serve as a supportive partner and mentor during each member’s healing process, through interpersonal support, guidance and shared experiences
• Establish and maintain relationships with members, built on mutual trust and respect, and support them through weekly video sessions and phone engagement; as well as chat, and SMS as needed
• Facilitate weekly, day and/or evening, small groups for members with shared identities/experiences
• Contribute to weekly collaborative meetings with other Care Advocates, therapists, dietitians, and other providers on your members’ care
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date, person-centered, notes and complete reports and other administrative tasks as required
• Participate in all training sessions, supervision calls, meetings, etc.
What we’re looking for
• 2+ years of direct experience providing support and working closely with people who have experienced eating disorders
• Lived experience of an eating disorder or disordered eating, with 2+ years of active recovery
• A flexible schedule that allows for attendance at weekly, midday, meetings (Wednesday - Friday preferred) and the facilitation of evening support groups (6:00 - 8:00pm CT)
• Time working in community-based, peer mentorship, and/or group support care models
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication
• Experience working with diverse communities, including across diverse identities including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic background
• Empathy, humility, and alignment with our values
Nice to have
• Formal training, education or certification in peer support, eating disorder coaching or another mental health condition
• Previous experience providing supportive care via telehealth/video
• Management experience building a team of peer mentors or other supportive care providers (e.g., social workers, recovery coaches)
• Previous experience working in a clinical setting or with clinical treatment providers
The Arise team is located all over the country and this is a remote role. Infrequent travel for attendance at company and team offsites and events may be required. We strongly encourage people who identify as BIPOC, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and members of other historically underserved communities to apply!
Arise focuses on Healthcare, Health and Wellness, and Mental Health. Their company has offices in New York City. They have a small team that's between 1-10 employees. To date, Arise has raised $4.1M of funding; their latest round was closed on July 2022.
