Book editor needed
I need a book production specialist to take my chapter files and deliver final, upload-ready files for Amazon KDP and IngramSpark.
Status: Content is locked. Media-law attorney has cleared the manuscript. Not looking for developmental editing.
About the book:
• Title: Behind the Veil: Why Your Life Is F*cked
• Genre: Nonfiction — spirituality, alternative measurement, social commentary
• Length: ~28 chapters + 6 profile sections + appendix + front/back matter (estimated 90,000–120,000 words)
• Voice: Direct, blunt, conversational, irreverent. The bluntness is intentional and stays.
• Comparable to: David Hawkins, Bradley Nelson, Joe Dispenza, David Icke
Scope of work:
1. Assembly — Combine ~35 separate .docx files into one master manuscript using my version map. Front matter, 26 chapters, 6 profile sections, appendix, back matter.
2. Copyediting — Full pass for grammar, syntax, punctuation, clarity, word choice. Track Changes throughout. Cut weak words. Fix awkward phrasing. Don’t smooth out the voice.
3. Continuity & consistency — The book contains hundreds of measurements that recur across chapters. Catch contradictions. Catch repetition. Catch inconsistent name spellings.
4. Pacing review — Flag chapters that drag, transitions that fall flat. I make the calls.
5. Final interior typesetting — Take the edited master and produce the final print-ready interior PDFs. Two separate PDF files required:
• KDP paperback PDF — RGB color, 6×9 trim, with bleed, embedded fonts
• IngramSpark paperback PDF — CMYK color, PDF/X-1a:2001 compliance, 6×9 trim, embedded fonts (IngramSpark rejects RGB and non-X-1a files)
6. Ebook export — Reflowable EPUB file for Kindle upload, with working table of contents and proper chapter breaks.
Final deliverables:
1. KDP paperback PDF (RGB, print-ready)
2. IngramSpark paperback PDF (CMYK, PDF/X-1a, print-ready)
3. EPUB file for Kindle
4. Source files (InDesign or Vellum project files) so I can produce a hardcover version later
5. Editorial memo summarizing your work and any flagged decisions
The voice is intentional and stays. Don’t smooth out the bluntness. If a sentence is unconventional but the meaning is clear, leave it. When in doubt, flag rather than rewrite.
Required experience:
• Book editing experience (minimum 5 years, nonfiction preferred)
• Adobe InDesign or Vellum proficiency for final print-ready output (this is critical — most editors don’t do this; please don’t apply if you’re only an editor)
• Experience preparing files specifically for Amazon KDP and IngramSpark (the spec differences matter)
• Comfort with controversial content — the book names public figures and makes provocative claims
In your proposal, please include:
• Examples of nonfiction books you’ve taken from manuscript to final published files
• Confirmation you do BOTH editing and final InDesign/Vellum typesetting (or how you handle if you don’t)
• Estimated turnaround
• Any questions about scope
