The Accountant role involves ensuring accurate financial data coding, recording, and reporting, while monitoring accounting activities for budget adherence and regulatory compliance.ResponsibilitiesDevelops and implements fiscal strategies to achieve goals and objectivesPrepares financial analyses for departmental and institutional planningManages specific funds including preparing all reports, explanations, and schedulesMonitors compliance with policies and procedures and make recommendations for changes as appropriateMonitors accounting transactions for accuracy and consistencyReconciles data from subsidiary systems to General LedgerMonitors and analyzes revenues and actual expenditures in relation to budget and makes changes to plans as appropriateParticipates in the planning and establishment of budgets, goals and objectivesPrepares and maintains accurate accounting records to ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies as well as GAAP, GASB and FASBParticipates in System-wide initiatives to improve operational efficiencies Processes journal entries including approval and correction of entriesAssists with annual audit with supervisionAssist with ACFR with supervisionSkillsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance; or equivalent combination of education, training and experienceIf a Bachelor's degree: No prior experience requiredIf an Associate's degree: Four (4) years of experience in accountingIf a High School diploma or GED: Eight (8) years of experience in accountingStrong analytical skillsCompany OverviewOur mission is to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians and others whom we serve.
