Wireless Communications Software Engineer

As a member of the Satellite Connectivity Group, you will work on the satellite network that enables connectivity to iPhone when off the grid without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. Every day, Apple customers use Emergency SOS, Roadside assistance, and Messages via satellite to stay connected when they have no other means to communicate. The Satellite Connectivity Group is seeking a Wireless Communication Software Engineer with a strong foundation in Digital Signal Processing, close familiarity with protocols like 5G NR, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, and excellent software engineering skills.

Description We are looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer experienced in developing and launching products to come help our team deliver our next generation of wireless products. This position requires a background in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and experience with all layers of a wireless communications stack (PHY, MAC, etc), as well as algorithm development skills. You will work in a small team and engage with vendors, suppliers, and other engineering disciplines to deliver high-performance, best-in-class wireless communications systems.

Minimum Qualifications
• Background in DSP and wireless communication systems is required. Relevant experience includes: existing protocols (e.g. CDMA, OFDM, etc.), physical layer algorithms, medium access control processing, and Software-Defined Radio, hands-on lab work.
• Strong C++ and Python programming skills - must be able to produce high-quality, production-ready software components to be used in a globally distributed system
• Sharp analytical skills to measure performance and debug issues across system boundaries and protocol stack layers
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage relationships across functional areas
• Attentiveness to focus on the smallest details that are meaningful to our customers and their experiences using Apple's products!

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience developing large-scale distributed systems
• Experience with GPU programming
• Experience with cryptography and channel coding
• Experience profiling and developing highly performant code
• Experience with network emulators and wireless communications test equipment
• Golang proficiency

Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
