Job Title: Web Developer (Ruby on Rails)
Location: 100% Remote
Duration: 14months
Ruby on Rails Developer Digital Participation Platform
We are supporting a client seeking a Ruby on Rails Developer to design, develop, and maintain a web-based digital engagement platform built on a modular Ruby on Rails architecture. The platform enables public participation and collaboration through a variety of interactive components.
This role will focus on feature development, platform customization, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance, while working closely with internal stakeholders and development teams to ensure scalability, usability, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Feature Development and Customization
Implement new features and functionality within a modular Ruby on Rails platform.
Customize platform modules related to user engagement, proposals, and accountability workflows.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Develop maintainable, well-structured code aligned with modern Ruby on Rails architecture and best practices.
Platform Enhancement and Maintenance
Build and enhance application functionality using Ruby on Rails and related web technologies.
Support platform upgrades to newer versions while maintaining compatibility with existing components.
Configure and customize platform features such as taxonomies, proposal management, and content moderation tools.
Implement bulk actions and workflow improvements to support large-scale participation processes.
Bug Fixing and Code Quality
Conduct code reviews and maintain high coding standards.
Troubleshoot and resolve platform issues related to usability, performance, and security.
Address bugs affecting user groups, content management, export functionality, attachments, links, and account workflows.
Platform Improvements
Maintain and improve customizable terminology and translation features across the platform.
Resolve concurrency and performance issues affecting platform stability.
Enhance usability of collaboration and group functionality, including development of reporting or analytics views.
Improve data export capabilities and overall user experience.
DevOps and Deployment Support
Support deployment activities and DevOps processes, including environment management and CI/CD pipelines.
Work with cloud infrastructure to maintain stability, security, and uptime of the platform.
Required Skills / Experience
The client said that candidates without the following will not be considered. But if you find someone with a 4+ years I'll take them, 6 or more is highly preferable)
6+ years of Ruby on Rails development experience
Strong ability to quickly onboard to new systems and work independently when needed
6+ years experience with version control systems (Git or similar)
6+ years of front-end development experience including JavaScript and CSS
Experience collaborating with developers, project managers, and designers in a team environment
Resume must include a portfolio or GitHub link (MUST HAVE)
Preferred Skills
Experience working in Agile or iterative development environments
Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms
