VP, Underwriting, Cannabis
Our client, a growing MGA, is launching its Cannabis program and is in need of a VP of Underwriting to take over the build of this book. The platform already has capacity, underwriting guidelines, and infrastructure in place, and is seeking a production-focused underwriting leader to execute the strategy, drive distribution, and lead an existing team. This is a highly visible role responsible for underwriting, revenue growth, and scaling the portfolio to $5M+ GWP in year one, focused on cannabis package lines (Property, General Liability, etc.).
The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years of underwriting experience (primarily in cannabis), a strong network across both retail and wholesale brokers (with an emphasis on retail), and a proven track record of building profitable books with strong loss ratios. Experience across MGA or carrier environments, familiarity with E&S markets, and exposure to reinsurance are all valued.
This is a hands-on fully remote leadership opportunity for a market-facing underwriter who can generate business, lead a small team, and establish a meaningful presence in the cannabis insurance space. Travel is expected to meet with agents and to attend conferences.
