Position Overview
As a Virtual School-Based Sign Language Interpreter, you will facilitate communication between Deaf/hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff in educational settings via virtual platforms.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide accurate and professional sign language interpretation during virtual classroom sessions, IEP meetings, and other school activities
• Collaborate with educators, students, and families to ensure effective communication access
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards and ethics
• Participate in virtual IEP and team meetings as needed
• Keep detailed logs and documentation as required by the school district
Qualifications
• Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID Certification, NIC, or state-specific certification)
• Experience interpreting in K–12 educational settings preferred
• Knowledge of educational terminology and interpreting ethics
• Reliable high-speed internet, webcam, and secure workspace for virtual sessions
Contract Details
• 1099 Independent Contractor arrangement
• Flexible schedules based on district needs (full-time or part-time)
