Position Overview:

The Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation seeks a visionary, strategic, and collaborative Vice President of Philanthropy to lead a comprehensive and inclusive fundraising program in support of the creation of the first monument on the National Mall dedicated to American women’s history. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Vice President of Philanthropy will design, manage, and execute a donor-centered development strategy to achieve the Foundation’s nine-figure fundraising goal, encompassing major gifts, corporate giving, foundation grants, planned giving, and grassroots fundraising efforts nationwide.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in capital campaigns and relationship-driven fundraising, with a demonstrated ability to engage donors at every level — from national philanthropic leaders to grassroots supporters — around an ambitious and unifying vision. The candidate will also have development systems experience, be prepared to build and manage a team, and have a deep understanding of fundraising best practices and strategy.

Working in close partnership with the President & CEO, Leadership Team, and Board of Directors, the Vice President of Philanthropy will play a key role in preparing, positioning, supporting, and joining the President & CEO as a primary external ambassador and face of the Foundation for donors and philanthropic partners. This includes briefing, strategy development, donor preparation, and follow-up to ensure effective, coordinated, and impactful donor engagement.

The Vice President of Philanthropy will build and lead a team of development professionals to execute annual and multi-year fundraising strategies aligned with the Foundation’s strategic priorities. The position will play a critical leadership role in positioning the Foundation for long-term sustainability, national visibility, and lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities

Team Building and Management
• Build a robust philanthropy team to meet nine-figure goals over 5 years across major giving, planned giving, corporate and foundation giving, and regional and annual giving
• Manage team to meet revenue, engagement, cultivation, and stewardship goals
• Oversee team meetings to review pipelines, prioritize prospects with staff, and support and expect progress
• Provide annual feedback to staff on performance

Major Gifts & Donor Relationships
• Cultivate, steward, and grow a portfolio of eight- and seven-figure donors and prospects
• Develop personalized engagement strategies that align donor passions with the Foundation’s mission
• Conduct donor meetings, tours, and stewardship touchpoints
• Implement Moves Management for major gifts, multi-year commitments, and special initiatives
• Develop and manage a high-touch stewardship program
• Ensure meaningful donor recognition and impact reporting
• Support special events, donor briefings, and community engagement activities
• Track donor engagement and progress toward revenue goals

Data & Reporting
• Ensure accurate donor records and reporting within the CRM
• Track donor activity, revenue, and pipeline performance
• Support forecasting and long-term fundraising planning
• Prepare annual report in partnership with the Communications team

Organizational Leadership
• Serve as a thought leader and partner to the President and CEO to set ambitious revenue goals and align fundraising priorities with the Foundation’s long-term vision
• Collaborate with the CEO and fundraising counsel to refine organizational fundraising goals, priorities, and plans
• Partner closely with the President & CEO to prepare, position, and support them as the primary external ambassador and face of the Foundation for donors, including briefing, donor strategy, meeting preparation, and follow-up
• Ensure systematic, regular reporting on pipeline, revenue, and goal attainment to the CEO and Board
• Collaborate with senior leaders and the Board of Directors to foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization, ensuring all teams feel ownership of development outcomes
• Create, lead, and manage the organization’s volunteer internal and external fundraising committees structure
• Work with other WSNMF departments to best message fundraising successes and work of the organization
• Represent the Foundation externally with presence and credibility, serving as a visible ambassador to our organizational champions, funders, institutional and corporate partners, and all key stakeholders

Qualifications

Education
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Experience
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in fundraising, public engagement, partnerships, or cultural programming, with a strong track record with national efforts;
• Experience leading high-profile national initiatives, public-facing programs, or large-scale events;
• Experience and expertise closing eight- and seven-figure pledges, through individual giving, corporate sponsorships, and foundation grants;
• Familiarity with donor CRM systems, Hubspot preferred;
• Experience supporting capital or multi-year campaigns;
• Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising best practices; and
• Strong understanding of U.S. history and a demonstrated commitment to women’s history.

• Passion for advancing women’s history and public memory.
• Ability to travel 25–30% of the year for partner engagement, events, and site activations.
