Job Description – VA Billing Specialist

Reports To - Director of Billing Operations
Location - In-Person (Waco, TX) or Remote

Position Summary
The VA Billing Specialist will play an essential role in processing VA (Veterans Affairs) claims and ensuring accurate, timely billing. This role requires a solid understanding of VA claims requirements, exceptional attention to detail, and a proactive approach to issue resolution. As part of the RCM team, the VA Billing Specialist will support efforts to optimize VA claim processing, minimize denials, and maintain compliance with all relevant regulations.

Job Duties

Claims Submission and Review

Process VA billing claims, ensuring accurate and compliant submissions.

Review claims for completeness and adherence to VA billing standards, identifying discrepancies for prompt resolution.

Issue Resolution and Follow-Up

Monitor claim rejections and denials, investigate root causes, and perform necessary corrections.

Conduct regular follow-up on outstanding claims to ensure timely reimbursement.

Client and Team Collaboration

Collaborate with Client Success Managers and other billing team members to address client billing inquiries and troubleshoot issues.

Provide updates and relevant claim information to clients, supporting efficient communication and fostering positive client relations.

Compliance and Documentation

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of VA billing requirements and implement changes as needed to comply with regulatory standards.

Ensure accurate documentation and tracking of all billing activity, maintaining detailed records for reporting and audits.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in medical billing, with specific experience in VA claims preferred.

Education: High school diploma or GED required; additional certifications in medical billing or coding are a plus.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in use of billing software and familiarity with VA claims procedures and regulations.

Communication Skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to effectively collaborate with clients and internal teams.

Attention to Detail and Problem-Solving:

Demonstrates strong attention to detail, with a proactive approach to resolving issues and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.

Working Conditions

Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals

Utilization of phone, [other software needed/required] and email to perform job functions
