As an Underwriter I-III, you will review and process new business, renewals, and revisions for various lines of insurance while evaluating risks and determining appropriate rates and coverage.ResponsibilitiesReviewing applications, renewals, and revisions to existing policies for insurance to determine the nature and degree of the riskResearches and obtains additional information on risk if requiredDetermining if risk is acceptable, is acceptable with restrictions, or should be declined based on analysis and evaluation of all information pertinent to the risk within the authority limit guidelines of this positionRisks to be declined must be referred to a more senior underwriterDetermining action required to improve risk and recommends restrictions to coverages or revisions to deductibles or premiums based on analysis of the riskDetermining appropriate rates, applies applicable discounts, and surcharges and calculates premiumsProcessing new applications, renewals, revisions, cancellations, and quotesAnswering inquiries orally and/or in writing and acts as a technical resource to brokers, insureds, and other employees on policy exclusions, wordings, coverages, and premiumsDeveloping correspondence to request information and to explain underwriting requirements and decisionsTraining and providing guidance to clerical staffPerforming quality control checksTesting the accuracy of information systems including updates to the systemPerform other related duties as assignedSkillsCompletion of Grade 12 educationCompletion of at least one Insurance Institute Course along with a positive commitment towards the completion of the CIP designation, demonstrated by completing two Institute courses per yearOne-year related insurance experienceKnowledge of the rating of policies and related underwriting practicesAbility to communicate clearly and effectively and manage multiple tasks and deadlines despite interruptionFantastic detail-orientation skills with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skillsFriendliness and interpersonal communication skills — the ability to maintain effective working relationships with team members and encouragement of company cultureBenefitsTons of opportunities for professional development – on usGreat benefits for you and your family, like dental and health and wellness spending accountsAnnual paid vacation time, so you don’t have to put your travel dreams on holdA hybrid work program, when applicableA paid, Earned Day Off (EDO) every three weeks.
