Temporary Bilingual Paralegal, LGBTQ Law

About the position New York City Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project has an immediate opening for a bilingual (Spanish/English) or multilingual paralegal to support to AVP’s attorneys providing consultation, representation and advocacy to LGBTQ+ clients. The paralegal will prepare legal documents, schedule client intakes and file court documents among other responsibilities. This is a temporary position with an end date of June 30, 2026 and the hope of a long-term extension as funding permits. Responsibilities • Manage, track, and enter data on the Legal Services Department’s progress toward its goals and grant activities; • Maintain relevant files; • Under the close supervision of AVP attorneys, assist in interviewing and drafting for our clients; • Coordinate community trainings on LGBTQ legal matters; • Schedule client intakes; • File court documents; • Translate written material from Spanish to English; • Interpret for Spanish speaking clients during client/attorney meetings; • Attend regular departmental and staff meetings; • Other duties as assigned. Requirements • Paralegal certificate, bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; • Highly organized with an ability to pay close attention to detail; • Ability to prioritize work and multi-task in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; • Excellent computer skills (proficient with Microsoft Office); • Excellent interpersonal skills; • Ability to handle confidential materials and information; • Bilingual Spanish/English required; Nice-to-haves • Experience with non-profit organizations, LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities, and/or anti-violence issues.
