POSITION DESCRIPTION

For example, would you have a blast going to see Mario Brothers at the AMC Movie Theaters with 50 kids tagging along? If so, our Teen Center Summer Camp Counselor may be the perfect fit for you! Our Teen Center Summer Camp Counselor leads teen activities, facilitates small-group discussions, chaperones teen field trips, and supports the Teen Development Supervisors leadership of teen programming.Staff serving in this role may be asked to lead a discussion about preparing for college, play dodgeball in the gym, chaperone a trip to the movies, set up a game tournament, play Dungeons and Dragons, supervise a cooking activity, and more.

The Teen Center Summer Camp Counselor Instructor is responsible for the safety and supervision of Club members in a variety of program areas. Under the direction of the Teen Development Specialist, the Teen Center Summer Camp Counselor delivers quality programs and high-yield activities to Club members. Utilizes the organizations mission, vision, and values to set members up for success and provide an outcome-driven Club experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to program development and facilitation, program area safety and cleanliness, providing guidance to volunteers, and transporting members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Facilitation & Implementation:
• Utilizing the Summer Camp curriculum provided, Teen Center Summer Camp Counselors facilitate scheduled activities in multiple or assigned program areas.
• Directly runs programming and high-yield activities in assigned area.
• Facilitates programming using a variety of methods, including lecture, discussion, active games, and supervised role playing.
• Administers outcome measurement tools.
• Delivers programs with an enthusiastic, high-energy, positive attitude.
• Records/communicates behavior incidents and achievements with full-time staff and parents.
• Engages with Club members and uses their feedback to inform program design and implementation.

Health & Safety:
• Ensures program areas remain safe, clean, and organized.
• Adheres to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdales policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates sound judgement and decision-making. Acts quickly in emergency situations.
• Maintains Club equipment and property to ensure they stay in good working order.
• Uses positive guidance and discipline techniques to redirect member behavior issues.

Utilizes active supervision techniques when working with Club members.

Additional Responsibilities:
• Supports and mirrors the culture, mission, values, and core beliefs of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale.
• Promotes an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces diversity.
• Fosters a fun and safe environment consisting of positive and appropriate interpersonal relationships.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Required:
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Passion for working with teens.
• Ability to multitask and adapt to Clubs changing needs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and cooperative working skills.
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite and be comfortable adapting to new technology.
• Maintains a valid drivers license and meets eligibility requirements to drive Club vehicles.
• Flawless ethics and integrity.

Safety oriented mindset.

Recommended:
• Direct youth programming experience.
• Ability to earn and maintain CPR and First Aide certifications.
