As part of the EASS eCMS program supporting modernization and sustainment of VA acquisition systems, the Technical Writer develops, edits, and maintains technical documentation, user guides, SOPs, training materials, release notes, and communication products. This role ensures documentation is clear, accurate, accessible, and aligned with system changes, user needs, and program standards, working closely with functional, technical, training, and operational teams. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop, edit, and maintain technical documents including user guides, SOPs, system overviews, training content, and release notes. • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly written materials. • Collaborate with SMEs, developers, analysts, trainers, and operations teams to gather and verify information. • Ensure documentation reflects system behaviors, workflows, and updates introduced by new releases. • Maintain version control of documentation and ensure consistent formatting and organization. • Support creation of communication products such as newsletters, stakeholder updates, job aids, and feature announcements. • Ensure all written materials meet accessibility best practices. • Prepare presentation materials and training content to support user readiness. • Collect and incorporate feedback to improve documentation quality. • Ensure documentation complies with program templates, formatting requirements, and standards. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: • Minimum of five (5) years of technical writing experience supporting enterprise IT environments. • Strong writing, editing, and content-structuring expertise focused on clarity and usability. • Ability to simplify complex technical topics for diverse audiences. • Experience maintaining documentation across iterative release cycles. • Strong collaboration and communication skills across diverse stakeholder groups. • Experience managing structured content repositories and version controls. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED: • Experience working with Federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs. • Familiarity with accessibility and document remediation practices. • Experience with instructional design or training development. • Familiarity with environments built on Azure, .NET, SQL Server, IIS, and related VA enterprise technologies. EDUCATION: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. CLEARANCE: • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
