Summary

The technical writer is responsible for formatting, reviewing, and editing a variety of reports, written analyses and studies, along with other deliverables produced by HSAG for local, state, and federal agencies.

Essential Competencies, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Work with key staff members such as executive directors, project managers, and technical writers to ensure that well-written, quality reports and documents are produced in a timely manner.
• Assist executive directors and project managers in developing templates and formats for company documents. Apply appropriate layout, format, and styles in accordance with HSAG standards as well as contract requirements.
• Review, edit, standardize, suggest revisions to, and/or rewrite materials prepared by staff members, contract writers, or other personnel to produce high-quality written documents. Responsible for ensuring grammar, punctuation, word use, structure, company style, and overall readability meet quality standards for all documents.
• Use approved styles and formats in Microsoft Word to ensure standardized templates, including document fields and advanced Word features.
• Maintain an accurate, up-to-date document tracking system for all project timelines.
• Implement version control processes during editing and formatting.
• Assist with verification of references and other research, as needed.
• Adhere to timelines for all deliverables. Quick turnaround time is required.
• Project deadlines may necessitate occasional extended work hours.

PLEASE NOTE: Qualified candidates will be required to complete a 30-minute editorial exercise.

Compensation: 60,000 - 75,000 DOE

Education and/or Experience
• Degree in English, technical writing, journalism, communication, or a related field is preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.
• At least five years of editing experience is preferred; experience working in the healthcare industry or other technical field will also be given preference.
• Advanced experience with and understanding of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and SharePoint; proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio are a plus.
• Demonstrated skills in communication, writing, and collaboration.
• Excellent writing skills: grammar, spelling, composition, proofreading, and editing.

Other Qualifications
• Excellent written and oral communication skills to convey technical information accurately and clearly.
• Ability to handle a large volume of detailed material under deadline pressure.
• Must manage multiple projects and track key deliverable dates.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and independently.
• Ability to see inconsistencies and other discrepancies in written material, and question them.
• Must be a quick learner and be flexible.
• Experience with Section 508 accessibility standards is a plus.
