This is a project-based contract role to produce a complete owner manual that covers both automotive and RV functionality. You will work remotely with our engineering teams to translate complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation that ensures safe operation and optimal user experience. The deliverable will be a professional-grade owner manual meeting both automotive and recreational vehicle industry standards.ResponsibilitiesDevelop a comprehensive owner manual covering all aspects of Lightship's electric travel trailer including propulsion, electrical, camping, storage, troubleshooting, and safety systemsWork remotely with engineering teams to understand technical systems and translate them into user-friendly documentationCreate clear safety warnings, cautions, and operating procedures for potentially hazardous systemsDevelop troubleshooting guides and maintenance schedules for both automotive and RV systemsWrite installation, setup, and operational procedures for camping equipment, electrical systems, and propulsion componentsEnsure documentation meets necessary regulatory requirementsCoordinate with internal teams to develop visual elements including diagrams and illustrationsCoordinate with marketing to ensure brand alignmentDeliver final manual in agreed-upon format within project timeline and budgetIncorporate feedback from engineering and safety teams during review cyclesMinimum Qualifications3+ years of experience writing technical documentation for complex productsProven experience with automotive or RV/recreational vehicle documentationStrong portfolio demonstrating ability to create user-friendly manuals for technical productsExcellent writing and editing skills with attention to detail and accuracyExperience working remotely and managing project timelines independentlyKnowledge of regulatory requirements for vehicle documentation (DOT, NHTSA, RVIA standards)Ability to work with engineering teams to extract technical information efficientlyPreferred QualificationsExperience with electric vehicle systems and documentationBackground in automotive or RV industry technical writingFamiliarity with camping/outdoor recreation equipment and user needsExperience with visual documentation tools and working with graphic designersKnowledge of accessibility standards for technical documentationProject management experience coordinating multiple documentation workstreamsUnderstanding of manufacturing and quality processesExperience with user experience research and testing methodologies
