Technical SEO Manager

Remote Full-time
executingTechnical SEO Manager Static Media is seeking a Technical SEO Manager who’s equal parts strategist, tinkerer, and problem-solver — someone who loves digging into the technical details, diagnosing problems, and builds and executing the solutions that make search engines (and users) fall in love with our content. In this role, you’ll be the go-to expert for all things technical SEO: from site architecture and crawl optimization to Core Web Vitals and schema markup. You’ll work at the intersection of engineering, growth, analytics, and content, ensuring our platforms are optimized for discovery, performance, and scale. If you thrive on diagnosing site health, shaping strategy, and translating complex technical insights into clear wins for growth, you’ll fit right in. About Static Media Static Media is a powerhouse in digital publishing, trusted by over 220 million readers each month. Across our portfolio of 30+ diverse brands, we deliver expert-driven, engaging content that informs and inspires in food, home, travel, tech, and beyond. Through wide distribution on major platforms like MSN, Yahoo, and Apple News, our stories achieve unparalleled reach and influence around the globe. What You’ll Be Doing: Technical SEO Leadership • Own and execute technical SEO audits across multiple properties — diagnosing crawl, indexing, and performance issues. • Partner with developers and product teams to plan, prioritize, and QA SEO-related projects, migrations, and experiments. • Maintain and improve site architecture, URL structures, taxonomy, and internal linking for both search and user experience. • Monitor and diagnose Core Web Vitals, page speed, and mobile performance; collaborate with engineering on optimization opportunities. • Manage robots.txt, canonical tags, sitemaps, and structured data implementations. • Scope, build business cases for, and execute technical SEO projects, translating best practices into concrete initiatives that move the needle. • Manage and develop direct report(s). Strategic Growth & Insights • Translate technical insights into strategies that meaningfully increase organic traffic and visibility. • Analyze competitive landscapes, keyword gaps, and SERP trends to uncover growth opportunities. • Use tools like Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog, and Looker Studio to identify and prioritize opportunities. • Stay ahead of algorithm changes, search trends, and AI-driven discovery technologies. Cross-Functional Collaboration • Partner with engineering and product teams to scope and implement solutions that improve SEO performance. • Work closely with editorial, affiliate, and commerce teams to inform taxonomy, metadata, and linking strategies. • Communicate complex technical concepts in clear, actionable ways for non-technical stakeholders. • Help create internal documentation and guidelines that scale SEO best practices across teams. Site Health & Migration Management • Lead SEO efforts during site migrations, redesigns, and launches to preserve and grow organic equity. • Develop and maintain redirect strategies and QA workflows. • Audit and validate taxonomy, URL mapping, and on-page optimizations throughout deployment. What You’ll Bring: Required • 4+ years of hands-on SEO experience with a strong focus on technical SEO. • Proven success managing large, content-heavy sites (preferably media or publishing). • Deep understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript rendering, and CMS frameworks (WordPress, Drupal, or custom builds). • Experience improving website health and hygiene, structured data, crawl efficiency, and page performance. • Proficiency with major SEO tools: Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Semrush, Sitebulb, and analytics dashboards. • Track record of turning SEO concepts into measurable optimizations, not just identifying issues but driving solutions to completion. • Analytical mindset with strong prioritization skills and attention to detail. • Excellent communication — you can turn technical findings into clear business recommendations. Preferred • Experience withPython, SQL, or APIs for automation or data extraction. • Familiarity with AI-assisted SEO and machine learning in search optimization. • Knowledge of affiliate or commerce SEO and structured data markup. • Understanding of content taxonomy, site migrations, and large-scale publishing environments. Who You Are: • A curious, data-driven problem solver who loves untangling technical challenges. • A proactive collaborator who builds bridges between engineering and content. • A builder with proven project management skills who spots opportunities, assesses their impact on the business, and sees them through to launch. • A communicator who can make complex SEO concepts approachable. • A self-starter who thrives on ownership and impact. • A lifelong learner who stays ahead of evolving search trends and technologies. What We Offer: • Remote Flexibility: This is a fully remote role, open to residents of the U.S. or Canada. • Competitive Compensation: We offer a competitive annual salary of $80,000–$110,000.
