About the Role
We are a virtual CPA firm seeking an experienced Tax Return Reviewer (CPA or EA) to review prepared U.S. tax returns during busy season, extension season, and potentially ongoing. This role is remote, part-time, and contract-based, with flexible hours and consistent review volume.
This position is especially well suited for experienced or semi-retired CPAs or EAs who prefer review-focused work and flexible schedules.
Key Responsibilities
• Review prepared federal and state tax returns for accuracy and compliance
• Ensure proper reporting of income, deductions, credits, and disclosures
• Review supporting schedules and workpapers
• Identify errors, inconsistencies, or missing information
• Provide clear, concise review notes prior to final filing
Return types reviewed include:
• Form 1040 (individual returns)
• Form 1120 (C corporations)
• Form 1120S (S corporations)
• Form 1065 (partnerships)
Required Qualifications
• Active CPA or EA license (required)
• 5–7+ years of U.S. tax preparation and/or tax review experience
• Strong experience reviewing both individual and business tax returns
• ProSeries tax software experience (preferred)
• High attention to detail and strong technical tax knowledge
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
• Reliable availability during busy and extension seasons
Compensation
• Around $40 per hour, depending on experience and return complexity
Work Schedule & Structure
• 100% remote
• Part-time, contract position
• Busy season and extension season
• Potential for ongoing review work beyond peak periods
• Flexible hours with agreed-upon turnaround times
