My client is a fast-growing, self-directed retirement account company with over $4.5 billion in assets under administration and 26,000+ accounts. We're on a mission to make alternative asset investing more accessible while maintaining top-tier compliance and client service. With rapid growth projected to continue (35-40% annually), we're looking to build out our in-house tax and compliance function as a key part of our next phase of expansion.
The Opportunity
We're seeking a Tax Manager or early-stage Tax Director to build and lead our in-house tax services function. This is a high-impact opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of the process, develop a new business unit, and grow quickly into a senior leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Lead and manage all aspects of tax preparation and compliance for the firm's various entities and clients
β’ Oversee filings for Form 990, 1120, 1065, and related returns
β’ Manage tax research, planning, and compliance across multiple business entities
β’ Coordinate with internal finance, operations, and legal teams to ensure accuracy and compliance
β’ Evaluate and improve tax processes and internal controls
β’ Hire and mentor future tax staff (interns, staff-level roles) as the department grows
β’ Work closely with executive leadership to develop tax strategy and identify new revenue opportunities within the tax services unit
Qualifications
β’ CPA license required
β’ 4-8+ years of tax experience in a public accounting firm or corporate tax department
β’ Strong familiarity with Form 990, 1120, and general IRS processes
β’ Experience in small or midsize firm environments preferred
β’ Desire to take ownership and grow into a director or VP-level role
β’ Excellent communication and leadership skills
Compensation & Benefits
β’ Base salary: $120,000-$170,000+ depending on experience
β’ Bonus potential: Performance-based, with the opportunity for significant upside based on success metrics
β’ Relocation assistance available for the right candidate if not remote
