Make a big impact on the ground floor of an AI/Robotics company in Construction Contribute and learn from a Multi-Disciplinary Product & Engineering Team We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team which spans mechanical, electrical, materials, robotics, AI, and software engineering. This role is ideal for someone who understands distributed systems from first principles, values simplicity over complexity, and enjoys designing APIs and data pipelines that other engineers love to use. You’ll play a key role in developing and optimizing the systems that power our autonomous earth construction robots. Key Responsibilities Architect and maintain distributed systems for real-time robotic operations. Evaluate and integrate open-source solutions for on-premise deployment. Build and manage event streaming, message queues, and data pipelines. Prioritize simplicity, maintainability, and clarity in system design. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration across hardware and software layers. Required Qualifications Deep understanding of distributed systems fundamentals. Experience designing APIs and internal interfaces for engineering teams. Familiarity with open-source infrastructure tools and on-premise deployment strategies. Hands-on experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, and data pipelines. Strong coding skills in Python, C++, or similar systems-level languages. Commitment to simplicity and maintainability in system design. Preferred Qualifications Experience with robotics or real-time systems. Familiarity with containerization, orchestration, and deployment pipelines. Exposure to edge computing or hybrid cloud/on-premise architectures. Background in systems programming or infrastructure engineering. Location & Travel Remote work opportunity; or, work in-office at the Terran Robotics Lab in Bloomington, Indiana. If remote, expect to travel to and work up to five days per month at the Terran Robotics Lab in Bloomington, Indiana, 45 minutes from Indianapolis.
