Student Advisor for MiaPrep Online High School (MOHS)

Formed in 2022 and accredited in 2023, we’ve grown from 80 students our first year to over 530 in 2025! Miaplaza’s leadership aims to continue this high-growth trajectory, with a goal of serving 10,000+ students in the next 5-10 years! We’re seeking a passionate and resourceful Student Advisor to join our team. This is a fully remote, asynchronous role that emphasizes building positive student relationships, coaching student growth, monitoring progress, and managing records and data. Advisors also maintain a secondary role in engagement, teaching, or administrative duties depending on their expertise and background. As a MOHS Student Advisor, you will be integral in shaping the community for our students, parents, teachers, and staff.A Day in the Role:Serve as the daily point of contact for assigned students, addressing their academic concerns and supporting their growth toward graduation and adulthoodDaily orientation classes via video conference with new studentsMaintain a secondary core role in engagement, teaching, or administrative duties to support the school while not advisingConduct frequent advising meetings via video conference to review academic progress, set goals, and provide guidance on educational and career plansMonitor progress of students between advising calls to identify potential indicators of struggle or need for support, and then provide resources and coaching as appropriateMaintain detailed records of student interactions, advising sessions, and communicationsWork in concert with Student Support Specialists, Academic Counselors, and teachers to target students for intervention, identifying the most effective strategies for each studentPartner with the Engagement Coordinator to investigate, experiment, and initiate student engagement opportunitiesEngage with students in online social spaces, clubs, and events, fostering a safe and supportive online communityParticipate in regular meetings with other MOHS staff and faculty members to discuss student advising and engagement strategiesAct as a liaison between students, families, and school administration to ensure clear and effective communicationRecommend possible changes to MOHS policies, services, or processes to administration as neededScheduleMOHS Advisors are expected to have 40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.Availability during school hours, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm in a U.S. timezone (ET, CT, MT, or PT) is required.Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education or related fieldAt least 2 years of full-time experience in a student-facing roleStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently in a remote settingExcellent organizational and multitasking skillsTech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly, such as gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google WorkspaceProficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sectorThe ideal candidate brings:Middle school experienceOnline advising experienceTeaching experience in any disciplineFamiliarity with homeschool communitiesCompensation & BenefitsThe expected starting pay range is $26.00 - $32.00 per hour. Student Advisors at MiaPrep Online High School work an average of 40 hours per week. When working year-round, this can equate to an annual pay range of $54,080 - $66,560.Miaplaza’s compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering the regional differences in living and labor costs. Specific rates will be provided during the hiring process and are aligned with market data and internal equity.Compensation is evaluated twice per year, based on performance.Full-time employees are eligible for health, dental, and vision insurance, inclusive of specialty care options like fertility benefits, mental health services, and chiropractic care, FSA, HSA, and more.All employees are eligible for a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match.PTO is all-purpose time off, and combines traditional vacation and paid sick leave plans into one flexible, inclusive policy. Full-time employees receive 16 hours of floating holiday PTO per quarter and accumulate additional PTO at the rate of 1 hour per every 17 hours worked.
