Staff Accountant – Remote (Texas) – Part-Time 20–24 hrs/week
About Us Draper Tax Inc. is a boutique, growth-oriented tax and accounting firm specializing in real-estate investors, property managers, and small business clients. We combine deep technical expertise with personalized service and modern cloud-based tools. We’re looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team remotely from anywhere in Texas (no state income tax). Role Summary The Staff Accountant will work 20–24 hours per week on a flexible remote schedule. You’ll handle client bookkeeping reviews, prepare and review tax returns, and support month-end and year-end close processes. This role is ideal for a self-starter who enjoys real-estate and small-business accounting and wants room to grow. Key Responsibilities • Prepare and review individual, partnership, and S-corporation tax returns, including multi-state filings. • Review monthly/quarterly bookkeeping completed by internal and overseas bookkeepers. • Perform reconciliations and adjustments to ensure GAAP and tax compliance. • Assist with real-estate related accounting (rental properties, 1031 exchanges, depreciation schedules). • Research tax issues and provide recommendations to management. • Communicate with clients via email and video calls to resolve questions and provide proactive guidance. • Support year-end close and preparation of financial statements. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. • CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred. • 3+ years of recent U.S. public accounting experience, ideally with real-estate clients. • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online; experience with Drake Tax (or similar) a plus. • Strong knowledge of GAAP and federal tax law; multi-state tax experience preferred. • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment. • High attention to detail, integrity, and client service mindset. Compensation & Schedule • Part-time, 20–24 hours per week, flexible schedule with core availability during business hours (CST). • Hourly rate $30–$40 depending on experience (equivalent to ~$60K–$75K FTE). • Remote role based anywhere in Texas.
