Staff Accountant, Accounting Advisory Solutions

As a Staff Accountant in the Accounting Advisory Services team, you will work directly with clients to support their accounting and financial reporting needs, assisting with technical accounting and operational support while developing your expertise in diverse business environments.ResponsibilitiesPrepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, IFRS, or other applicable frameworksAssist in the implementation of new accounting standards, including ASC 842 (Leases), ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), and ASC 805 (Business Combinations)Research and draft technical accounting memos addressing complex issues such as equity transactions, debt modifications, and consolidationSupport clients with SEC reporting (Forms 10-Q, 10-K, and S-1 filings), as applicablePerform account reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analyses to support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processesAssist clients with daily accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, intercompany transactions, and fixed asset accountingHelp clients design and improve accounting processes, including the documentation of policies and proceduresParticipate in client meetings, helping to identify issues, propose solutions, and deliver high-quality work productsCollaborate with cross-functional teams—including audit, tax, and consulting—to provide integrated client solutionsContribute to project planning, budgeting, and execution, ensuring timely delivery and client satisfactionSkillsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; Master's degree preferredCPA license or active progress toward CPA eligibility strongly preferred1-4 years of experience in public accounting or corporate accountingStrong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principlesProficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts clearlyStrong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, client-facing environmentExposure to technical accounting research and memo writingFamiliarity with internal controls and SOX compliancePrior consulting or advisory experience is a plusBenefitsTime off outside of your standard PTO to give back to the communityAnnual discretionary merit increases and bonusesTalent development resources to tap into growth opportunitiesCompany OverviewFounded in 1977, Cohen & Co is one of America’s Most Recommended Tax and Accounting Firms by USA TODAY and serves a broad range of clients — from privately held companies and their owners; to public and private funds, advisers and fund service providers within the investment industry; to Fortune 1000 multinational enterprises.
