What Your Day Might Look Like: Keep systems running : Monitor, maintain, and support MS SQL Server environments, including high-availability setups (e.g. Availability Groups). Solve real issues : Troubleshoot performance and availability problems, identify root causes, and prevent them from happening again. Optimize performance : Handle tuning, indexing, and automation to keep databases efficient and scalable. Ensure resilience : Manage backup and recovery processes to guarantee data integrity and disaster readiness. Maintain security : Apply patches, manage upgrades, and enforce database security best practices. Support operations : Respond to incidents and support requests, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations. Work across technologies : Contribute to projects involving other database systems (e.g. MongoDB, CockroachDB). Operate in the cloud : Support and optimize cloud-based database environments (primarily Azure). Requirements Your Superpowers Hands-on experience managing MS SQL Server in production environments. Strong understanding of core SQL Server features (monitoring, jobs, backup/recovery, replication, Availability Groups / Always On). Experience diagnosing and resolving performance and availability issues. Good knowledge of database design concepts (e.g. partitioning, in-memory tables). Exposure to other database technologies (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, CockroachDB). Experience working with cloud environments (preferably Azure). Familiarity with Git/GitLab workflows.
