Position Information Position Availability: April 6 to June 30 Position Title: Spanish Speaker Research Assistant for Housing Justice Oral History Project Requisition Number: 0406073610 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: PSD/School of Design Strategies Responsibilities: We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented research assistant to collect, document, preserve, and interpret oral histories that capture personal narratives, cultural heritage, and historical events. The ideal candidate will conduct interviews, transcribe recordings, analyze historical content, and collaborate with researchers, archives, and community organizations to ensure the preservation and accessibility of valuable oral histories. This position is for the Housing Justice Oral History Project, housed at Parsons Housing Justice Lab. This is a SENS-UAW unit position as per the collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902 and the University. This position is open to student applicants with Federal Work Study awards, as well as student applicants without a Federal Work Study award. Work Mode: Virtual Position Hourly Rate: 30.16 USD per hour Hours per Week: 5-10 depending on student availability Key Responsibilities: • Conduct in-depth oral history interviews with individuals and communities to document personal experiences, cultural traditions, and historical events. • Record, transcribe, and archive interviews using appropriate methodologies and digital tools. • Ensure ethical and legal compliance regarding consent, copyright, and intellectual property rights in oral history documentation. • Analyze and interpret oral histories for historical research, publications, exhibitions, and educational purposes. • Manage and maintain digital and physical collections of recorded interviews and related materials. • Present findings through reports, presentations, lectures, and publications. Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications and Skills: • Master's degree students from History, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Urban Studies, or a related field. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on long-term research projects. • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. • Full domination of Spanish (native) Preferred Qualifications: • Proven experience in oral history interviewing, transcription, and archiving. • Strong research, analytical, and storytelling skills. • Familiarity with audio and video recording equipment, transcription software, and digital archiving tools.
