This is a strategic IC role with high impact and visibility across engineering. You’ll set testing direction, understand and measure testing coverage, prioritize automation initiatives, and scale our QA function. While technical fluency is important, this role is ultimately tasked to ensure that the Coalesce engineering organization continues to deliver with high quality.You’ll partner closely with developers, DevEx, Infrastructure, Product, and Customer Support to shape how we test our product on data warehouse platforms like Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, etc. and in all of our product’s enterprise configurations—ensuring our QA efforts surface software quality concerns as product complexity grows.What You’ll DoOwn the QA roadmap: set vision, priorities, and success metrics for test automationDesign and evolve a long-term automation strategy that aligns with evolving product functionality and realistic customer usageDefine and track quality KPIs (e.g., automated coverage, flake rate, PR feedback time)Build and champion a robust test pyramid (unit, integration, infra) across teamsLead realistic testing efforts around dogfooding, performance, and scaleBuild best practices and processes for understanding release quality in productionLead and mentor QA engineers, while influencing engineering teams to write more meaningful, maintainable testsProvide technical guidance to QA contributors and coach engineers on writing better testsCollaborate with DevEx on CI feedback times, test sharding, and flake detectionEvaluate and roll out new automation frameworks and AI-driven testing toolsAct as the go-to person for software quality strategy, tooling, and automation best practicesAdvocate for quality as a shared responsibility across engineeringWho You Are7+ years of experience in QA engineering or software engineering with a passion for quality and automation, including 2+ years as a software quality leaderDeep understanding of automated testing methodologies and tools, including unit, integration, UI, and performance testingDeep knowledge of testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, Playwright) and experience building custom testing harnesses and librariesStrong technical fluency with modern programming languages (TypeScript, Python, Java, etc.).Experience with production observability and telemetry - OTEL, DataDog, Cloud LoggingExperience building and scaling QA programs in fast-paced enterprise SaaS environmentsAdept at using metrics to drive decisions and measure impactComputer Science or related degree preferredBonus PointsExperience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure)Familiarity with enterprise SaaS features: RBAC, PrivateLink, Audit Logging, SSO, SCIM, SAML, OAuth, REST APIsExperience or interest in working with SQL data warehouse platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, Fabric, Redshift, BigQuery)Experience working with mission critical high availability SaaS servicesExperience with software products that involve performance and scaleSince founding Coalesce in 2020, our mission has remained the same: to improve the lives of data professionals by helping them transform data as efficiently as possible.
