Software Engineering Intern (Unpaid) | Startup
Prox is a fast-growing grocery savings startup helping shoppers save money by making smarter grocery decisions. We’re building tools that make it easier for consumers to save on the products they already buy, and we’re looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join our team.
About the Role
This is an unpaid internship, ideal for students or early-career engineers looking to gain hands-on experience working across a range of technical areas within a startup environment. You will work directly with the founder and contribute to core product and technical initiatives across our platform.
Responsibilities
• Contribute to technical projects across multiple areas of the business, including product development, backend systems, infrastructure, and data workflows.
• Help build and improve features across web and mobile experiences.
• Support efforts to improve system reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Assist with technical problem-solving across engineering priorities as the product continues to evolve.
• Collaborate directly with the founder on product direction, execution, and technical decision-making.
• Gain exposure to modern tools, workflows, and real-world startup engineering challenges.
Qualifications
• Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals and modern development workflows.
• Interest in working across a variety of technical areas, including application development, cloud systems, databases, and data-related engineering work.
• Problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn quickly in a fast-moving environment.
• Ability to commit 20–40 hours per week, with flexibility around school schedules.
Required Skills
• Strong interest in software engineering and building real-world products.
• Comfort learning new tools, systems, and technologies quickly.
• Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and take ownership of projects.
• Interest in startup environments and building from the ground up.
Preferred Skills
• Exposure to JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, SQL, React, React Native, cloud platforms, databases, scraping tools, or related engineering technologies is a plus.
• Interest in mobile app development, backend systems, infrastructure, or data engineering is also a plus.
Pay range and compensation package
This is an unpaid internship.
