SHELTER WORKER (ANIMAL SERVICES)

We are currently seeking:

A shelter worker to join our team and, under general supervision, perform all aspects of humane animal care duties to ensure animal safety and well-being.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining shelter areas as assigned.
• Feeding, watering and bathing animals.
• Providing humane sheltering services in compliance with State minimum standards and shelter policies.
• Safely and humanely handling animals of unknown health and temperament.
• Contributing to the programs and services that support the shelter's live outcome goal.
• Ensuring the safety of animals and people in the shelter.
• Accurately maintaining all required records in the shelter's database.
• Assisting in unloading trucks, stocking shelter areas and storing materials.
• Maintaining facility and grounds in a clean, neat and organized manner.
• Varying hours Sunday through Saturday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm including holidays.
• Regular and timely attendance is required.

Requirements and Skills:
• Safely handling animals, including those with unknown temperament.
• Adherence to disease management and safety protocols.
• Working with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
• Establishing and maintaining effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
• A High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Some experience working with animals is preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
• Reliable transportation is required.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
• Work is performed in the City animal shelter; work involves moderate physical demands.
• Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards and be able to lift up to 96 lbs.
