Senior Technical Program Manager, Data Platform
Technical Program Managers (TPMs) play a critical role at Marqeta in leading large-scale initiatives across our product and technology organizations. TPMs structure and oversee programs from inception to launch and ongoing delivery, ensuring better workflows and more effective communication. They work closely with executives and key company stakeholders to drive critical programs and activities across the company.
Marqeta’s Technology and AI division provides common online services infrastructure, engineering pipelines, observability, cybersecurity, compliance, data platforms and analytics, artificial intelligence, and more – thousands of live service instances on two continents processing hundreds of millions of transactions, moving billions of dollars on behalf of hundreds of millions of cardholders. As a Senior Technical Program Manager, Data Platform in this division, you are responsible for driving and reporting on a portfolio of transformational programs delivering outcomes that modernize and uplift all of Marqeta’s online services. You will drive and own process, data, and technology transformations across agile engineering functions and collaborate/partner with other organizations within Marqeta. You will partner with leadership teams to drive strategy, in addition to helping to plan, organize, and work with teams to execute the vision for our key initiatives.

The Impact You’ll Have
Provide excellent technical program management driving a portfolio of technical programs and projects to deliver and evolve Marqeta’s online services
Oversee the engineering work to evolve our constellation of data platform services keeping them secure, compliant, reliable, scalable and cost-efficient.
Develop and leverage strong partnerships for transformation while remaining agile to respond to changing business needs
Proactively work with key stakeholders to identify the highest priority Initiatives
Define and execute communication plans to report each program across multiple stakeholders in Marqeta including executive-ready reporting
Manage risks, schedules, and blockers, facilitating problem-solving for the team
Validate assumptions, define success metrics, and use data to drive strategic improvements
Suggest improvements to TPM standards to enhance PMO service quality
Use scrum and agile practices to boost initiative delivery across engineering teams
Who You Are
3+ years of experience in large-scale data services, including technologies such as Airflow, Snowflake, Kafka and Change Data capture platforms;
5+ years experience managing technical programs or projects involving the engineering, delivery, and operations of online services
Proficient in agile software development practices
Familiarity with modern cloud-based services technologies
Understanding of modern SSDLC (Secure Software Development Life Cycle) practices including security vulnerability categories and remediation described in the OWASP top 10 and elsewhere
Knowledge of fundamental modern practices for ongoing delivery of high-availability online services
5+ years of technical program management experience
Strong communicator, able to work independently across time zones
Skilled at navigating ambiguity and seeing the big picture to drive success
Confident in working with diverse teams, including executive sponsors
Proven track record of delivering complex, cross-functional projects
Pragmatic problem-solver, resourceful, and action-oriented
Change agent with a focus on progress over perfection

Experience in electronic payments and accounting systems
2+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent training
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a STEM degree

To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:
National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:
National: $114,200 - $142,700
Premium: $123,600 - $154,500
Premium Plus: $134,300 - $167,900
