The Sales Engineer is responsible for pre-sales technical engagements with our customers, delivering compelling presentations and building aligned network designs, pivoting between credible technical discussion and distilling technical concepts into simple business language while reinforcing the Calix value proposition. In this role, you will interact with and influence senior technical staff and business management within Calix’s broadband service provider customers. You will provide demonstrations of Calix’s product capabilities and assist with lab and field trials. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, experience in a pre-sales position, and confidence in both technical and business forums.Responsibilities:Positioning and selling Calix FTTH and in-home networking products and solutionsAssist in the preparation of RFx responsesDeliver technical sales-oriented presentations to customer's technical staff and senior managementUnderstand business requirements involved with technical account strategyAssist customers and resellers in configuring and testing products and networks in lab and field trialsProvide leadership and guide customers on technical and operational issues within areas of expertiseWork with customers to design and architect network solutions to their applications needsDeep understanding of the product portfolio to apply the best solutionsInfluence decisions and adept at simplifying our Calix technology conceptsResearch and stay up to date on the most recent industry standards and trendsCapture, articulate, and prioritize customer requirements and share with Calix Product ManagementTravel expectations: In region travel up to 50% on average required to support customer engagementsQualifications: MSc/BSEE/BSCS desiredStrong background and experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 Access network architecturesStrong background and experience with FTTx Fiber based Access solutionsStrong background and experience with WAN services, PON and Ethernet based architecturesKnowledge with various routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS), transport functions (L2/3 VPN) and subscriber management/BNGAbility to troubleshoot complex issues related to L2/L3 deployment architectures and methodologiesUnderstanding of SaaS and SDN based technologiesExperience partnering with cross-functional teams on continuous improvement in product, education, training, testing methods, and demosStrong interpersonal skills, a proven track record of synthesizing and interpreting complex issues into solutions and the ability to effectively work with multiple audiences and levels across organizationsExcellent presentation and written communication skillsAdditional Considerations:Experience in the Broadband Service Provider industry in Germany, Austria and SwitzerlandKnowledge of operational support systems and understanding interactions with APIs (REST/JSON) including design, integration, and troubleshootingUnderstanding of network security methodologies, including but not limited to ACLs, Stateful firewalls, VPNs (tunneling, IPsec, PPTP, etc.)Working knowledge of network management and orchestration platformsTechnical familiarity with Wi-Fi systems#LI-Remote
