Senior Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Systems Design

Our client is a renowned engineering firm specializing in advanced building systems and is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in HVAC system design to join their innovative team in Tampa, Florida, US . This hybrid role requires a talented professional to lead the design, development, and implementation of efficient and effective heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for a diverse range of projects, including commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities. You will be responsible for conceptualizing HVAC solutions, performing detailed engineering calculations, selecting appropriate equipment, and producing comprehensive design documentation. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and psychrometrics, along with a thorough understanding of energy efficiency principles and building codes. You will collaborate closely with architects, electrical engineers, plumbing engineers, and project managers to ensure integrated and optimized building performance. Key responsibilities include performing load calculations, designing ductwork and piping systems, specifying HVAC equipment (e.g., chillers, boilers, air handling units, VAV systems), and developing control strategies. Troubleshooting system performance issues and providing construction administration support are also integral parts of this role. Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design of HVAC systems for various building types, ensuring optimal comfort, air quality, and energy efficiency. Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software (e.g., HAP, Trace 3D). Design ductwork and piping distribution systems, adhering to project requirements and codes. Specify HVAC equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handling units, fans, pumps, and terminal units. Develop system layouts, schematics, and equipment schedules. Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, energy standards (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1), and client specifications. Collaborate effectively with architects, electrical engineers, plumbing engineers, and other project stakeholders. Provide construction administration support, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits. Investigate and resolve design and construction issues related to HVAC systems. Stay current with emerging HVAC technologies, sustainable design practices, and industry trends. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in HVAC system design. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida or the ability to obtain one. Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., HAP, Trace 3D, Revit MEP). Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and psychrometrics. Familiarity with building codes, energy conservation standards, and industry best practices. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Experience with sustainable design principles (e.g., LEED) is a plus.
